New York Red Bulls Supporters Present A Day Of Ska This Saturday October 2nd To Benefit A Great Cause

For those of you who happen to be fans of both American ska and Major League Soccer (I count myself among the group) this Saturday October 2nd is your chance to combine your two passions as well as support a great cause.

The New York Red Bulls two main supporters clubs (Empires Supporters Club and Garden State Supporters Club) have decided to throw a ska music party at El Pastor in the famous Ironbound section of Newark, New Jersey featuring the Garden State's ska sensations Hub City Stompers and NYC old skool 2-Tone rude boys Bigger Thomas (featuring yours truly on bass) and punk band Ambergris before this coming Saturday's 7:30 pm New York Red Bulls home game against the Kansas City Wizards.

The festivities and music start at 2 pm and will serve as an unofficial retirement party for one of the Red Bull's longest standing players John Wolyniec. It will also serve as a benefit for his Red Bull teammate Seth Stammler's Sporting Chance Foundation which provides support and resources to people in Haiti. Admission is $10 and all proceeds will go to Sporting Chance Foundation.

El Pastor Bar and Restaurant (which serves fantastic Portuguese cuisine) and has a great outdoor stage area is located at 570 Market Street, Newark, NJ (just a short walk away from Red Bull Arena). I hope to see a few familiar faces. If you make it, be sure to say hello to me.

Now it looks like I won't be able to make this...work is SUPER crazy, as we are on deadline for Monday. I'm bummed (but glad to be making $$$). You'll have to do something like this again soon.

Good luck with the gig!

Hey Marc, I can't get a feel for this place. Thinking about bringing my wife and 7 year old son for some ska, maybe some food, and then going to the Red Bulls game. What's the setup like? I don't want to bring my 7 year old if it's like the Stone Pony Summerstage where everybody stands behind a rope like cattle. What's it like at the venue?

Thanks!
MC

Hi MC,

It would be great to see you Saturday! El Pastor is a very nice bar/restaurant with a great outdoor section that includes a stage. Our drummer is bringing his 2 kids so you should be in good company. The few times I have been there have been very laid back. Should be fun.

Hope to see you.
